about
I have worked as an editor and writer for fifteen years. Over the course of that time I have transitioned from working primarily on history and geography textbooks to language arts and reading curriculum products, and then later to a range of engineering and technical publications. I have also learned to tune the complexity of my writing, writing for audiences ranging from adults to kindergarteners. I love using my imagination and stretching my craft to create a unique product.
As an editor, I enjoy the challenge of preserving the author’s voice while making his or her prose more clear, precise, and engaging, especially when the topic is highly complex or technical. Part of the role of the editor is to know what the author meant to say, even when the author struggled to find the right words. The editor quietly, calmly improves the author’s writing, rectifying whatever deficiencies exist and unlocking the power of the text.
I have a B.A. in Political Science and Anthropology from Rice University and an M.A. in Middle East Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. I have lived in the fantastic city of Austin for sixteen years. I am married to a science educator and writer and have a young son. In my spare time I enjoy films, reading, fencing, and urban homesteading.
